Q. What happens to the wind farm once it’s no longer in operation?
A. After 25-30 years, the wind project will be assessed to determine if turbines should be "repowered", upgraded, or dismantled. A decommissioning agreement with the local government ensures that funds are available for dismantling and removing turbines if that is determined to be the most appropriate path to take. When turbines are removed, they are removed from the surface of the land entirely. Agricultural uses can continue unimpeded, and no remnants of turbine structures are visible. These agreements transfer if the project or the company is sold to another entity.
